Smart Home
1,Introduction
A smart home or building is a home or building, usually a new one, that is equipped with special structured wiring to enable occupants to remotely control or program an array of automated home electronic devices by entering a single command. For example, a homeowner on vacation can use a Touchtone phone to arm a home security system, control temperature gauges, switch appliances on or off, control lighting, program a home theater or entertainment system, and perform many other tasks. In the Software-Hardware Integration class context, a residencial automation design called SmartHome was proposed.
2,Objectives
This project has as its main objective to train the students at working in a hole product divided into subprojects where each team works with distinct goals. At a certain stage of the development it’s expected an integration between subprojects to compose the final product. Also as the students are expected to have some background on embeded systems when taking this course, skills at developing such systems will be improved as well.
3,Description
The project itself consists of five subprojects: Media Center, Gateway, Wall Sockets, Remote Control and Control Center. Each one will accomplish an equally important task at the house system. They are listed and linked bellow:
Media Center: Will be the entreteinment center, playing many types of media and reciving media streaming via Wi-Fi
Gateway: Will provide the interface between SmartHome System and Internet allowing external access.
Wall Socket: Will be responsible for the electrical control of the house, acting as intensity regulators and on/off switches.
Remote Control: A handheld with touch-screen interface to control the Media/Control center.
Control Center: An embedded software that is responsible of controlling SmartHome System’s functions.
